About

Beyond Instinct is the research and writing practice of an independent scholar working at the intersection of equine behaviour and the ethics of human–animal relationships.

The name reflects a doubled attention: to the animals themselves and to the frameworks we bring when we try to understand them. The superscript is a reminder that looking once is rarely enough.

Work here spans long-form articles, shorter stories from the field, and research reports — thinking out loud about what it means to live alongside other species with care and rigour.

Focus areas

  • Equine ethology and cognition
  • Ethics of domestication and companionship
  • Fieldwork methodology in animal behaviour research
  • Philosophical frameworks for interspecies relationships
